JOOUST Hosts Top- Performing Primary School Pupils in Science from Vihiga County

Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology organized a science motivation boost program for primary schools within Vihiga County. This was based on a study that linked the poor attitude of learners to poor performance in sciences in Kenya.

In this regard, JOOUST set a pilot program in Vihiga County, and hosted the following 15 primary schools: Kedohi, Muhanda, Kitulu, Induro, Madira, Igakara, Vunandi, Imbaga, Ingidi, Kisienya, Ihyagaro, Esivalu, Wonderland academy, Ebulako and Makanya primary school. Apart from the motivational talk given by various scholars headed by Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Research Innovation and Outreach, Prof. Benson Estambale, learners were also provided with stationery (books, pens, geometrical sets, rulers, pencils, rubbers etc). Schools were given designed scientific visual aids, board mathematical apparatus and ECD learning visual aids.

The pupils also got the privilege to tour JOOUST's serene environment including the beaches of Lake Victoria. This activity is sponsored by the University through the Kenya Chemical Society and the Royal Society of Chemistry in the UK.
