MR AND MISS JOOUST 2019 CROWNED

Mr. Brian Kimaru and Ms. Phenny Adhiambo are the newly crowned Mr and Miss JOOUST 2019. The duo was crowned in the just concluded University Cultural Week. In the tightly contested pageant the two emerged first after competing in a series of categories showcasing their unique talent and flare, leaving the first runners up positions to Mr. Sydney Omar and Ms. Sheila Francine Kaidi respectively.

 

 

The event was officially opened by the Registrar Academic Affairs Dr. Walter Akuno who congratulated the student leadership saying this was a great student driven affair. He also encouraged the students to harness their talent and skills in providing solutions in their various industries. 

While giving his remarks, the Dean of Students Prof. Christopher Obel Gor, lauded the student leaders, saying this was the first event of its kind, where the student leaders took full responsibility. He noted that they solely organized and mobilized for funds through partnership with household companies such as Coca-Cola Company to sponsor the event. Prof. Gor thanked the students for being exemplary work and for not engaging in strikes that would otherwise interfere with their academic calendar. 

Other categories awarded were Mr. Flex which was won by Mr. Zablon Odera, a third year student pursuing a Bachelors’ Degree in Business Communication and Miss Plus Size JOOUST,  taken by Ms. Emmah Judith Okumu, a second year student pursuing Bachelor of Education in Special Needs. There was a notable guest appearance by renowned comedian YY, who gave a rib cracking performance that left the audience in stitches. Students also took up the stage with performances from Damstar254, who gave a spoken word, Glisters dance crew, dance JMG, Mustapha the Poet, also known as David Akunga and our ever vibrant Masters of Ceremony, MC Justo also known as Justus Alila, MC Alandeh and DJ Dimore who coordinated the performances.

The cultural week also involved a series of activities such as tree planting and cleaning of Bondo market, visitation of local children’s home, inter-denominational prayers, cultural extravaganza where the Pokot won the award for the best cultural display and dance, traditional entertainment, inter- year football competition and a public lecture on gender based violence, alcohol and drug abuse and HIV.
