JOOUST ELECTORAL BOARD GEARS UP FOR 2020 STUDENT ELECTIONS

The University’s Electoral board has engaged in strategies to enhance peaceful, credible and transparent student elections in the forthcoming student elections in 2020 during a  workshop in Siaya. This comes after the Electoral board successfully conducted election of the current student council that took place on 27th February 2019.

The aim of the workshop was to reflect on the strides the board had taken thus far to ensure credible student electoral process. Speaking during the opening of the forum, Registrar Academic Affairs, Dr. Walter Akuno said that the good leadership exhibited by the student leaders stems from the good governance in the University from the top level to the bottom. He added that the University Management Board endorses and supports the electoral board as well as the student leadership. “The world is looking for our graduates. This makes the University proud of the employability of our students” He added.

While giving his remarks, Prof Christopher Obel Gor, the Dean of Students said that this was a good opportunity for the students to demonstrate leadership that supports peace, integrity of service and credible elections. He implored them further saying that each and everyone’s role was crucial towards bringing together skills, experiences and knowledge to ensure the students are satisfied with the service.

The presiding officer Dr. Mary Onditi noted that the electoral board strives to promote regional balance and leadership through fair participation.

Other sessions comprised of presentations on the legal framework to delivering credible SAJOOUST elections, spirit of team work in SAJOOUST Electoral Board and more. The workshop also addressed the challenges faced during election process such as security on the day of election and prior to. The board came up with resolutions that will help curb insecurity among other irregularities come SAJOOUST 2020 elections.
