The University held a workshop on the implementation of the Competency Based Curriculum at the University. The workshop was aimed at discussing the role of universities in the implementation of the CBC and the preparedness of JOOUST.

The workshop which was organized by the School of Education incorporated stakeholders in the implementation of the Competency Based Curriculum which included all academic staff and the outgoing CEO of the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) Dr. Julius Jwan who is now the Principal Secretary University Education and Research nominee at the Ministry of Education.

While giving his opening remarks, the Vice-Chancellor Prof. Stephen Agong’, noted that it was paramount for the university to change tact in their lecturing methods hinting that very soon universities will start admitting students who are CBC products. Prof. Agong’ praised CBC mode of learning terming it the best way to train students to be innovative and practical oriented.

Dr. Jwan noted that CBS was the best thing that ever happened to Kenya since it has a focus on competencies which are value –based and has more opportunities for specialization. He urged universities to take advantage of the flexibility and inclusiveness to come up with market driven programmes.

The workshop was organized by the School of Education through the Dean Dr. Jack Ajowi. Also present during the workshop was Prof. Charles Ong’ondo who is the Chairman of the taskforce on Secondary School CBC Implementation.
