Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology has launched its revised Strategic Plan 2016/2017-2020/2021. The occasion was incorporated with the unveiling of ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management Systems Standard Certification, revised Customer Service Charter and a Stakeholder engagement forum.
While addressing the audience comprising of members of staff, students and key stakeholders within and without the University, the Chancellor Dr. Vimal Shah lauded the revision, saying the process ensured relevance of the Strategic Plan with regards to change in socio-economic sector and technology. Dr. Vimal further implored the importance of self-awareness and being part of the solutions and change desired. He expressed his delight at the launch of the Service Delivery Charter saying that the university recognizes the value of Customer Focus and the need for Customer excellence in Service Delivery.
As a major stakeholder, the Deputy Governor Siaya County H.E. Dr. James Okumbe equally commended the milestones achieved by the University thus far, highlighting that the County is actively forging more partnership opportunities with the University. He added that the County government appreciates its collaboration.
Amb. Stephen Loyatum, the acting Chairman of Council, expressed his confidence in the University in achieving its goals as projected in the Strategic Plan. He lauded the University Management for the initiative and tasked them with the responsibility of making sure the Revised Strategic Plan was implemented to the letter.
In his closing remarks, the Vice Chancellor Prof. Stephen Agong’ thanked everyone who participated in the achievement of these milestones by the University.
The need to revise the Revised Strategic Plan was necessitated by the need to align its strategies and programmes to current Government policies and programmes as contained in the Constitution of Kenya, Vision 2030 but also to the Global Development Agenda informed by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs); the continental development agenda anchored on the Africa Union’s Agenda 2063; and the regional development framework in line with the East Africa Community Vision 2050.
