JOOUST Officially Commissions IP Phone System

JOOUST Vice Chancellor Prof. Stephen G. Agong’ has today officially commissioned the newly installed IP Phones, a ceremony witnessed by members of the University Management Board, Director ICT, Director Quality Enhancement and Assurance and other Senior Managers. The ceremony involved the official handing over of the project to the university by Mr. Yusuf the manager of Network Options and Solutions who is the service provider.

While Commissioning the system the Vice-Chancellor Prof. Stephen Agong’, noted that it was a huge milestone that the university had achieved. “We want to commend the team which includes the user department, the Directorate of ICT and the Service Provider for the good work.” Said Prof. Agong.’ The IP phones which have replaced the old analogue landline phones are internet based and have the ability for teleconferencing, and have the advantage of low costs, no licensing fees and user friendly compared to the analogue phones. In addition to these, the IP phones are easily scalable, flexible in terms of routing over internet connection, and also offers mobile/ softphone services.

A total number of 295 basic IP phones, four executive phones, one IPP PABX phone and one GSM Gateway have been commissioned for efficient communication within the University network. This is expected to improve operations and communications within and without the university
