Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology today donated a consignment of disinfecting agents to the Siaya County Government as part of its’ contribution towards the Covid-19 pandemic. The handing over ceremony which took place at the Siaya County Referral Hospital was witnessed by the Chief Administrative Secretary in the State Department for University Education and Research, Ministry of Education Ms. Mumina Bonaya.
While making her remarks, Ms. Bonaya took note of the University’s efforts in the universal fight against the corona pandemic. “We acknowledge and deeply appreciate the University for producing disinfecting agents to be used towards the fight against Coved-19 and recognize this effort as the Ministry in charge of Education.”, Said Ms. Bonaya.
The disinfecting agents included antiseptic hand washes, hand sanitizers and disinfectants that were produced within the University. While handing over the consignment, the Vice-Chancellor Prof. Stephen Agong’, reiterated the university’s’ commitment to meeting its corporate social responsibility in contributing towards the prevention of additional Covid-19 infections in Siaya County. “As a university, we are aware of the fact that times are changing and we need to change with the times by innovating and coming up with homegrown solutions.” Said Prof. Agong’.
The Governor Siaya County, H.E Cornel Rasanga expressed his appreciation to the university for supporting the County’s efforts towards the fight against Covid-19. “As Siaya County Government, we are grateful to JOOUST for its timeless efforts towards partnering with us to fight this pandemic. We are indeed grateful to the university for thinking about the community and laud your effort. We would like to further partner with the university to upscale mass production of the disinfecting agents for commercialization and continued used by our local hospitals.” Said the Governor.
The disinfecting agents were produced and packaged by the School of Biological and Physical Sciences led by the Dean, Prof. Regina Nyunja alongside, Dr. Angeline Ochung’, Dr. Richard Magwanga and Coordinated by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor. Research, Innovation and Outreach Prof. Benson Estambale and Registrar RIO CS. Rosemary Ngesa.
The event was attended by the County Minister of Health, Ms. Dorothy Owino among other County executive members including part of the University Management that included the Deputy Vice- Chancellor in charge of Research Innovation and Outreach, Prof. Benson Estambale, Prof. Joseph Bosire, Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic Affairs and Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Planning, Administration and Finance Prof. Francis Ang’awa and the Registrar RIO, CS Rosemary Ngesa.
