The University’s Promoting Awareness and Participation of Persons with Disabilities in Education and Community based Programmes (PAPPS) project team has this week, had a series of engagements with  the Siaya County Persons With Disabilities leaders in Rarieda, Ugunja, Akala, Siaya, Bondo town among others. The objective was to officially roll out the Siaya County Persons with Disabilities Organization Constitution. The office bearers of the organization were also taken through their responsibilities as outlined in the constitution.

While addressing the leaders, the Principal Investigator Dr. Charles Omoke urged the leaders to keep advocating for education among children with disabilities adding that this is their constitutional right.

Prof. Pamela Raburu who is also part of the PAPPS project steerers further echoed to the leaders the importance of sharing their stories with families and parents raising children with disability as a way of promoting awareness and inclusive care to these children.

The constitution seeks to provide a forum for effective coordination of Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) organizations and activities within Siaya County, promote participation in and access to social, educational and economic activities and opportunities with a view of raising the quality of life of PWDs, carry our advocacy, collaboration and networking with interested parties, while espousing the rights of PWDs among more.

These activity among others form part of the Quarter two activities implemented by the team in line with the project objectives.

PAPPS continues to contribute to the awareness and well-being of PWDs through initiatives that charge leadership at national and county level to support sustainable development and inclusivity in the community.
