JOOUST Host Flemish Partners for Five Days Formulation Mission

JOOUST VLIR-IUC Project hosted a physical Formulation Mission from 7th to 12th March, 2022 in Kenya where meetings were held both at the University’s Main Campus and Ciala Resort in Kisumu. The mission brought onboard project members from both the Flemish and Kenyan side to formulate a proposal for the Phase 1 of the project running for the next 5 years.

This is an Institutional University Cooperation involving Vrije Universiteit Brussel, KU Leuven, Ghent University, and University of Antwerp, all from the Flanders.

The project aims at strengthening JOOUST capacity in natural resource management, food security, ICT, climate change and health through creation of synergies in transformative knowledge, technologies and innovations across the five subprojects.

While officially welcoming the attendees to the mission, the Vice Chancellor Prof. Stephen Agong’ challenged members of various subprojects to endeavor working together with their Flemish counterparts to ensure that the project achieves its goals within the specified time. On his part, the Local Program Coordinator, Prof. Benson Estambale, in his welcoming remarks, expressed his confidence that the project is set to positively impact on the locals changing their livelihoods for the better.

The Flemish partners have had an opportunity to visit various action sites which were identified by their local partners as potential areas for project implementation.
