SAJOOUST STUDENT GOVERNING COUNCIL TAKE OATH OF OFFICE

The Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology Student Governing Council (SGC) has officially been sworn into office.

This marking the beginning of a new tenure after the recently concluded Student Association of Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology (SAJOOUST) elections 2022/2023. The ceremony was graced by the University Management led by the Vice-Chancellor Prof. Stephen Agong’, who presided over the occasion.

While giving his opening remarks, the Vice -Chancellor congratulated the newly elected officials on their appointment to office. He added that it was a delight presiding over the SGC swearing-in ceremony noting that there has been a harmonious leadership trajectory spanning over twelve years except one year. The Vice-Chancellor assured the students that all the appeals Will be addressed while noting that the new online system has contributed to the enhancement of credibility in the electoral process. “All of us are winners in this electoral process. Your being in office will not only benefit the student body but also all the stakeholders of the University.” He added.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic Affairs Prof. Joseph Bosire, who also congratulated the exultant officials, had an opportunity to thank the Vice Chancellor for his leadership in enabling the SAJOOUST Electoral Board and University Management to conduct the elections. He most especially thanked the Board for working tirelessly to ensure the success of the process, adding that they were able to valiantly handle all the matters arising. Echoing the sentiments, Deputy Vice-chancellor, Research Innovation and Outreach Prof. Benson Estambale also congratulated the student leaders adding that student leaders are now part of the management processes of the University at their level and that the University leadership is willing and ready to work with and support them in every way.

Other notable remarks were from the Returning officer Dr. Mary Onditi who on behalf of the Electoral Board thanked the University Management for granting the opportunity to conduct the process. She also thanked the out-going leadership commending them for working seamlessly with the Board. Prof. Obel Gor, the Dean of Students lauded the new leadership leaving them with the charge: “You now have the power to dispense your duties dully and relentlessly”.

The Chairman of the Student Governing Council Mr. Peter Odhiambo also had an opportunity to voice his gratitude to the University leadership and the Electoral Board including all the students who contributed to the success of the process. He urged his team to work in unison even as they celebrate the victories and face the challenges that await their leadership, glancing at an elated crowd. He assured the leadership that the SAJOOUST officials are ready to participate in the leadership process as well as the research initiatives and the sustainable development goals in line with the mandate of the Institution.

The SGC comprises the Chair, His Vice Chair Ms. Samburu Judith Mwende, The Secretary General Mr. Mark Mugambi, Treasurer Mr. Sylus Okumu, Director of Student Welfare Ms. Violet Nyanchera Nyandwaro, Director Curricular Ms. Nicola Audra Ogola and Director Co-Curricular Mr Samwel Omondi.

The leaders are expected to undergo leadership training in due course. The University Management wishes them all the best in their endeavors.
